We’re back to bring you all the juicy details about how Puttfolio, the fantasy golf game, scores your picks and turns them into impressive Puttfolio Scores! 🏆 Our scoring system is as clever as a golf pro’s swing (or at least we hope so), ensuring you get the rewards you deserve, no matter the tournament. Our own point system will have you shouting “Fore-sure!” 🙌Indeed, winning The Open should entice you to more points than winning a Challenge Tour tournament, but winning a Challenge Tour tournament should give you more points than barely making the Cut at The Open… Quite the headache. Here’s the lowdown on how our scoring magic happens. 🧙♂️ We’ve divided it into 4 (oops, 5) categories for your convenience.First up, at the end of every hole (end-of-hole), your golfer scores points based on their performance:
Double eagle, hole-in-one, or better: 15 points 🦅🏌️♂️
Eagle (excluding hole-in-one): 7 points 🦅
Birdie: 2 points 🐦
Par: 0.5 points 🏌️♂️
Bogey: -1 points ☹️
Double bogey or worse: -3 points 🙈
But wait, there’s more! If your golfer really shows off their skills, we throw in some cumulative end-of-round bonuses:
Bogey-free round: 5 points 🚫
Round under par: 3 points 👌
Finally, the player’s position on the leaderboard matters:
1st place: 50 points 🥇
2nd place: 30 points 🥈
3rd place: 20 points 🥉
Top 10%: 10 points 👌
10–25%: 5 points 👏
The above point system relates to a “standard”, 72-hole tournament. If the athlete competes in a tournament that has fewer than 72 holes (by design or due to unforeseen changes), we’ve got you covered! The end-of-hole and end-of-round bonuses are extrapolated to be equivalent to a 72-hole tournament. If the athlete misses the cut, or DNF (did-not-finish), in a tournament, his/her points are stopped at that point count. That’s when your substitute comes in handy. The above point system defines the Unaltered score of an athlete during a particular Tournament Week.
Now comes the tough part: Aligning points received between tours and tournaments worldwide. This is called Field Strength Adjustment, or FSA. 🌍🏌️♀️We take into account the “rank” of players participating in a tournament based on the Rolex Ranking/OWGR ranking at the beginning of the tournament week. If someone isn’t ranked in these lists, they’ll be given the position of the lowest-ranked player active during that week in their respective ranking system. Fair’s fair! 🤝Now, don’t let the math scare you off! The FSA is a nifty score between 0.75 and 1, unique to each tournament (read The Open, Waste Management Phoenix Open, etc..), and that multiplies a player's Unaltered score towards a Puttfolio Score. As such, we first take the average rank of all athletes entering a tournament. We call this data Entry average rank.
We also calculate the Rank point value, which is the difference between the highest and the lowest Entry average rank of a tournament week, divided by 0.25. This helps us extrapolate the FSA from 0.75 to 1 among all tournaments.😎We then assign the value of 0.75 to the lowest entry average rank tournament. Each and every other tournament then receives its own FSA through the following equation: Tournament FSA = 0.75 + ((Entry average rank — lowest entry average rank) * Rank point value)
Then, the Athlete’s Puttfolio Score for a particular Tournament week follows this equation:Athlete’s Puttfolio Score = Unaltered score * Tournament FSA.Voilà!It sounds complicated, but it really isn’t.
